Who We Are
We are better
together.

God is doing beautiful things.

We do everything we can to live into God’s abundance. That means we strive to walk alongside each other, no matter what. This is a place where you are seen, heard and loved.

Our Core Values

We are centered in Jesus.

We strive to model our life together after Jesus, who created a place of safety, welcome, belonging and grace upon grace for all people. We are committed to journeying with people through life’s seasons of death and resurrection, sharing hope, love, kindness and empathy along the way.

We are collaborative.

We will expand our circle of understanding through collaboration with our neighbors near and far, working together with organizations that share love and seek justice. We will seek ways to make our building a center of belonging, a hub of connection and a resource for the community.

We are creative.

Created in God’s image, we were made to create! We will share the Gospel in unexpected ways – like cooking, baking, sewing, knitting, painting, music, sculpture, writing, video, dance, acting and photography. We will not be afraid to take risks and dream boldly! We will worship, communicate and walk with others so that more and more people will understand the message of God’s unconditional love and grace for everyone.

We are radically inclusive.

We believe that God’s love and the message of Jesus includes all people with no limitations, preconditions or exceptions. We will seek to be inclusive and diverse, not just on paper, but in practice. We will engage with other communities and organizations to help us identify the barriers within ourselves and our community that keep us walled off from one another, so we can create a space where people from multiple cultures and backgrounds, and people of all sexual and gender identities find welcome, safety and belonging.

We are increasingly generous.

We are beyond grateful for God’s unconditional love and generosity in our lives. Modeling Christ’s generosity, we will be increasingly open and responsive as the Holy Spirit moves us with opportunities to be generous as individuals and as a faith community. We want to give freely of our love, time, money and resources in service to God at Nokomis Heights, in our local community and around the world.

Our Vision

Centered in the radically inclusive love of Jesus, Nokomis Heights is called to be a multicultural and beautifully diverse congregation.

This is an all-encompassing goal that shapes our full vision for creating a culture of understanding and heartfelt love for our neighbors. We want to move out of our comfort zones to know and love each other individually as God knows and loves each of us. This means finding ways to truly learn about each other and share experiences together, crossing cultures and worldviews in ways we have not yet imagined.

We understand that we will not be perfect at embodying this vision, so we are committed to continually make changes necessary for all people to feel a sense of belonging.

We have discerned three primary paths toward our goal:

Connecting people to people.

We will intentionally connect with each other across multiple languages and cultures, working together to alleviate isolation and celebrate God’s gift of diversity.

Sharing food.

We will invite people to address food insecurity at both the personal and systemic level, with a growing awareness of diverse cultures, diverse foods and diverse relationships.

Accompanying immigrants.

We will become a haven for people who were not born in the United States.

Vision Statement

God continues to pull us forward into more expansive inclusivity, generosity, creativity and collaboration as we find new ways to learn more about each other and share our lives together. Read our full vision statement.
